Working with experts to adapt both scientific and public policy information into content that appeals to the general public is never easy, but we aced it!

We led the process of catapulting NWF to a new level of engaging multimedia products for their many audiences.

Challenge

As an organization that offers community education events all over the country through a network of volunteers, what are the most effective, engaging, and practical ways to recruit, train, and certify volunteers to lead these events?

And as climate change imperils more and more ecosystems and wildlife, how do we inspire members of the general public to learn what they can do to help turn the tide?

Solution

Our founder led the organization’s stakeholders through an innovative visioning process that birthed a free online education portal called Wildlife University™.

This innovative portal provided self-directed, online learning experiences with multimedia content and guest speakers. Engaging content was blended with opportunities for participants to apply their learning - in community projects or on their own. By building interactive quizzes, social forums, and offline projects into the user experience, we reinforced learning and simultaneously measured the effectiveness of the curriculums.

Wildlife University exceeded its goal of attracting 5,000 people to get involved in National Wildlife Federation programs- ultimately training over 7,500 volunteers, employees, and new participants in one year while reducing NWF's training infrastructure costs by 50%.

Ongoing evaluation indicated Wildlife University participants were taking the actions we recommended in their individual daily lives and within their communities.
