We have been a trusted advisor to the World Bank Group since 2009 on dozens of engagements.

We have worked with multiple business units on a variety of projects, for both internal audiences and external: clients, donors, and the general public. Some examples follow.

Challenge

How do we get ahead of the curve when we have ongoing needs for timely, skills-based professional development, knowledge management, and capacity building?

New staff come on board regularly and must learn the business quickly. And experienced staff running complex deals need the benefit of the knowledge, experience, and successful practices that their colleagues in other regions and business units have. How do we position them (and thus the business) for success?

Solution

Stephanie Eskins-Gleason worked with internal subject matter experts and management to define the essential skills and knowledge that staff should acquire, share, and demonstrate. She worked closely with World Bank and International Finance Corporation staff to define solutions, pilot them, and evaluate their effectiveness. Frequently, she managed their development and implementation.

Selected projects for internal audiences include:

  • Development of competency and skills-based learning and performance frameworks, and corresponding learning paths, for the Global Partnership for Output-Based Aid and Results-Based Financing and for the International Finance Corporation Public-Private Partnerships practice

  • Mentoring programs that paired people strategically for the International Finance Corporation and the World Bank

  • Processes, learning, and performance support tools to support onboarding for International Finance Corporation’s Advisory Services staff

  • PPP University, a platform supporting knowledge capture, exchange, and learning for the global Public-Private Partnerships practice

Selected projects for external audiences include:

  • A Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Public-Private Partnerships for the World Bank Group Open Learning Campus. Stephanie served as the learning strategies expert on the core team that designed and managed the development of a Coursera course taken by 9,000 government officials and students worldwide and was one of two facilitators for the course

  • An animated video, e-zines, and podcasts for the World Bank’s Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience (SURR) Global Practice and the Global Partnership for Output-Based Aid and Results-Based Financing
